The Goals for Our Initiative are as Follows:
Recently the City of Houston has announced their next stage of expansion plans for the Intercontinental Airport (IAH) by placing a third runway between two existing runways that affect our region. To some, that expansion represents further woes.
The City of Houston needs to adopt a coherent set of Noise Abatement Procedures and deliver them to the Federal Aviation Administration for immediate and permanent implementation, monitoring and enforcement.
Why is Houston one of the few large cities in the country or world that does not have Noise Abatement Procedures with explicit and enforced procedures to protect the residential environment in a reasonable manner? No one can legitimately advocate that dropping down to 2000' or lowering landing gear eight-ten miles from touchdown is necessary or required for safe landing???
Implementation of a low cost, effective, noise abatement procedure requires only the cooperation of the City of Houston, the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA), Continental Airlines, and concerned homeowners. However, the concerned Harris County homeowners who are seeking a *** have not had much success convincing the City of Houston and the FAA to cooperate.
